I adore this card: a pair of very relaxed, well fed buddy bunnies stargazing. Perhaps an unlikely image for a fitness professional to promote. Like they say, sitting is the new smoking. But I don’t think inactivity on its own is the culprit. I think sitting while plugged into our various devices day in, day out is the real problem. Recent studies suggest that day dreaming – or in this case star gazing – is a necessary, restorative process for our brains. Think how you feel after a restful holiday. It’s a break from the incessant juggling of tasks, our brains full, our minds distracted. We can achieve the same restorative results and have a mini holiday every day by making the choice to regularly turn away from our devices, turn off the TV and radio. Combine this philosophy next time you lace up your sneakers for your spring jaunt. Leave your iPhone behind, take your ear buds out and swap them for some true “I” time and spring buds. Work your body. Rest your mind. Reap the rewards. Awesome.
